Akal Takht appeals for calm, calls desecrations 'deep rooted'

Taking strong exception to the alleged desecration of holy books in Punjab, the head of Akal Takht, the highest temporal body of Sikhs, today said it was a "deep rooted" conspiracy to hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.
"Such incidents hurt the sentiments of the community. Even two members of the Sikh community were killed, was irrecoverable loss," Akal Takht head Gurbachan Singh said.
In the present circumstances, Sikh community should should not be get emotional, he said.
He advised community not to be violent in any circumstances but remain cautious and keep eyes on anti-social elements who were behind the acts.
Singh asked all the Gurudwara committees for constant vigil to avert any untoward incident.
"Coordination committees should be formed at village- level for promoting Sikh religious teachings among young generation," he said.
