Akshay, 49, announced the news on Twitter by posting a picture of himself standing in front of a toilet with the 27-year-old actress.
"A very good morning from @psbhumi and me from the sets of 'Toilet- Ek Prem Katha!' First day it is... Need your best wishes," he wrote.
Bhumi also tweeted the same photo, calling toilet their most "trusted" friend.
"Hello from @akshaykumar, me and our most trusted friend the toilet.New start and a new Prem katha #ToiletEkPremKatha."
According to the reports, the film directed by Shree Narayan Singh, is based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious project, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
