The 29-year-old actor will feature in the Morten Tyldum-directed film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Vikander will play Helena, a woman living a seemingly ordinary life, but hiding a dark secret within, that she is the daughter of the notorious "Marsh King," the man who held her and her mother captive in the wilderness for years.
The story is based on the best-selling novel of the same name penned by Karen Dionne.
Elle Smith and Mark L Smith have developed the script.
Vikander is also attached as executive producer.
