The BJP leaders today said that the family of the youth, who was killed during communal clashes here, should be given a compensation 'equal' to the Dadri victim.
Senior party leaders of Aligarh, including MP Satish Gautam, have assured the youth's family members that they will be meeting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on November 18 to press for their demand.
District President BJP Deoraj Singh said that the other MPs and Mayor Shakuntla Bharti will also be accompanying the family of Gaurav for the meeting.
"At least 40 lakh should be given as compensation to Gaurav's family at par with Akhlaq's family (victim of Dadri lynching)," Singh said.
Gaurav, who was injured in communal clash in Aligarh, died at a hospital on November 12, even as nine persons were arrested in connection with the clash which was triggered on Diwali night over bursting of crackers.
The district authorities had announced a sum of Rs 10 lakh to his family as compensation.
His family had been sitting on Dharna for the past two days till yesterday night.
DIG Aligarh Govind Agarwal today said that we had assured the victim's family that a sum of 10 lakh was the maximum amount which they were authorised to sanction at the district level in an incident of communal violence.
"As far as parity with the Dadri issue is concerned, it is for the Chief Minister to decide", he added.
Agarwal said normalcy was slowly returning to the affected localities under Delhi Gate area of the old city.
Earlier this morning, some agitators including women blocked traffic on Khair Road, protesting against the arrest of five persons late yesterday night.
The men had been picked up by the police in connection with rioting on November 12.
The two persons were later released by the police after preliminary investigations, he said.
