A proposal by Shiv Sena corporators to make singing of the national song 'Vande Mataram' mandatory in civic-run schools was passed at an all-party-meeting in the Pune Municipal Corporation today.
Similar proposal had been passed by the general body of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the Mumbai civic body, in August this year.
Sena corporators Sanjay Bhosale, Nana Bhangire and Vishal Dhanwade had submitted the proposal to the standing committee of the PMC.
The proposal was approved at an all-party-meeting. "It will now be tabled in the general body meeting for final approval," said Bhosale, who is Shiv Sena's leader in the house.
