A group of Kashmiri youth today held a candle light protest here appealing the Centre to allow the family of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was executed in Tihar jail recently, conduct his last rites as per their customs.
"We appeal to the government of India to allow the family of Afzal Guru to conduct his last rites as per their customs and wishes," chairman of the group, Global Youth Foundation, Touseef Raina told reporters near the Press Enclave here.
He said the family was not given due notice of the rejection of the mercy plea or prior notice of Guru's execution.
"The least his wife, young son and brothers deserved as citizens was a last chance to meet Guru," he said.
The group appealed the Centre to order a thorough and independent investigation into the case.
"There should be a thorough and independent investigation of the officers and forces who Guru named in his testimony to the courts," he said.
