Alstom T&D India to supply power transformers in Bhutan

Alstom T&D India has bagged a contract worth Rs 55 crore for supplying power transformers in Bhutan.
"Alstom T&D India has been awarded a euro 7 million (Rs 55 crore) contract by Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project Authority to supply power transformers for a 720 MW project," the company said in a statement.
The company will supply 13 units of 75 MVA (megavolt ampere), 400 kV (kilovolt) generator transformers etc.
MVA is the unit used for the apparent power in an electrical circuit.
Alstom will design, engineer, manufacture, supply, transport, erect, test and commission the generator transformer, shunt reactor and associated equipment for the project.
All equipment will be supplied from the company's manufacturing facility in Naini (near Allahabad).
According to the Central Electricity Authority of India, Bhutan has a hydropower potential of approximately 25,000 MW.
The Government of India and Royal Government of Bhutan have agreed to develop the hydropower sector in Bhutan, targeting 10,000 MW of hydroelectric generation by 2020.
"Alstom T&D India is pleased to contribute to an ambitious hydropower development plan, and help establish a robust electrical grid for Bhutan with its latest technological products," Rathin Basu, Managing Director of Alstom T&D India said in the statement.
Shares of the company were trading 0.97 per cent down at Rs 330.70 at pre-close on the BSE.
