Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today opposed state government's move to provide some six acres of land of Punjabi University in Patiala for setting up an Adarsh School within the campus.
He said the varsity was already short of space and needed more land for construction of teaching and administrative blocks and hostels.
Moreover, the Congress leaders said, setting up a school within the campus would dilute the higher academic character of the varsity.
He said the Punjabi University was an institution of high repute acknowledged internationally and setting up a school within the campus "defies all logic".
Amarinder, however, said he was not against setting up of Adarsh Schools.
He said the government could easily provide land at another location outside the campus for the school.
Amarinder said he hoped a better sense would prevail on the government and it would rescind its decision.
