Two statues, one of Dalit icon B R Ambedkar and another of Sant Ravidas, were found damaged in a village under Gadwar police station area in this district following which a case was registered, police said today.
The villagers of Majhova informed about the vandalism following which an FIR has been lodged against unknown persons, Gadwar police station in-charge Ram Singh said.
He said repair work of the statues was on.
SP Sriparna Ganguly said the village pradhan and chowkidar had been given the responsibility of protecting the statues. Further action will be taken after questioning them, the SP said.
There have been several instances in recent past where miscreants have damages statues of national icons in Uttar Pradesh.
