Eyeing return to power after 16 years in Delhi, BJP national president Amit Shah today directed the city unit to launch an aggressive campaign to ensure the party's victory in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Shah visited state BJP office and held a meeting with senior Delhi BJP leaders where various issues regarding the party's election preparedness were disscussed.
Shah's visit is being seen as an effort by him to enthuse the party workers to get ready for Assembly elections which are likely to be held in February next year.
Sources said that after BJP's impressive performance in Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir, Shah is now focusing on Delhi to bring the party back in power after a gap of 16 years.
"Shah has asked state party leaders to start an agreessive campaign to ensure the party's victory in the upcoming polls," said a senior BJP leader.
"Party will definitely win Assembly elections. We have launched several campaigns to ensure the party's victory in the upcoming Assembly elections," Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said.
Sources said Shah also sought the status of the campaigns being carried out by BJP.
In a brainstorming session last month with Delhi BJP leaders, Shah had asked them to go "all out" to ensure a clear majority for the party in the forthcoming polls.
He had directed the party unit to organise 2700 street corner meetings (nukkad sabha) to strengthen the party at grass root level.
Congress was in power in Delhi from 1998 to 2013.
BJP came close to wresting power in the Assembly elections in December 2013 but fell to short of five seats to get majority in the 70-member House.
