An assistant professor in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been booked for allegedly sexually harassing a foreign research scholar.
A case under Section 354 (A) (making sexually coloured remarks) of IPC has been registered against him following a police complaint by the woman, police said.
Top University officials said that the researcher had written to the SSP of Aligarh that a case "should be registered "on the basis of her complaint".
A spokesman of AMU said that the complaint pertained to alleged "inappropriate" text messages by the teacher in the faculty of management and not to "physical overtures".
"The matter is under investigation and justice will be meted out," the spokesman said.
