A team of doctors and paramedical staff from the Aligarh Muslim University left for Kathmandu today to provide immediate medical assistance to the quake affected people in Nepal.
The Medical Relief Team, which is carrying free medicines worth over Rs 2 lakh, was flagged off by AMU Vice Chancellor Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah.
Team leader Dr Kahsif Razi from the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, said that the ten-member team includes two representatives of the Aligarh Drug and Chemist Association who have donated medicines and other equipment for this relief operation.
Razi said the above relief team had been organised as an initiative of 'Soch', a voluntary organisation of students from the Aligarh Muslim University.
He said that the team had vast experience of providing such humanitarian assistance and had served during the recent floods in Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and the communal riots at Muzaffarnagar in 2013.
The Nepal embassy has been duly informed of this relief team which is planning to visit remote areas of Nepal which are still in dire need of urgent medical assistance.
