AMU to start Faculty of International Studies

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is set to establish a Faculty of International Studies which would include eight new streams of study, an official said today.
The President of India, who is the Visitor of AMU, has approved the proposal sent by the University for establishing the new faculty, an official release by the university stated adding the letter of approval was received last week.
The eight streams of study in the new faculty would be Department of West Asian Studies and North African Studies, Department of Chinese Studies, Department of South Asia and Indian Ocean Region Studies, Department of Asia Pacific Studies, Department of American and European Studies, Department of Strategic and Security Studies, Department of Foreign Languages and Department of South African and Brazilian Studies, the release stated.
Teaching in undergraduate language courses for Chinese, French, German, Russian and Spanish under the Department of Foreign Languages would commence from the next academic session, a university spokesperson told PTI.
The process for establishing the Faculty of International Studies was initiated by the University Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen Zameer Uddin Shah (retd) two years ago.
The project was launched by Maj Gen G G Dwivedi (retd), a Professor at the Centre of West Asian Studies, who was appointed as its coordinator.
