In an open letter, the Vice Chancellor warned that strong action will be taken against "all unauthorised elements" presently residing in some Aligarh Muslim University hostels, and cautioned all students against permitting such elements "from staying with them".
His warning comes in the wake of a number of incidents of indiscipline and breach of law and order at the campus during the past few days.
The Vice Chancellor has also taken a serious view of some activities of the leaders of the newly-elected Students' Union, who have been holding a dharna outside his residence since past three days.
Shah, however, has said there is no question of any relaxation on the issue of "shortfall in the minimum attendance percentage" for appearing in the annual exams.
The Union leaders are also demanding immediate revocation of the suspension order of Student Union's Vice President Taushif Alam. He was suspended on March 11 and was banned from entering the campus following serious allegations of "misbehaviour" with senior University officials.
A senior University official today said that the Vice Chancellor has written to the Union Home Minister on various issues related to "breach in the law and order in AMU campus" since the past few weeks.
Meanwhile, police have launched a hunt for two persons, who have been named in the shooting incident at the AMU campus on Wednesday evening in which two former students were seriously injured.
The police have also announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for any information pertaining to the above two culprits who have the long history of crime behind them.
