Ancientidols unearthed near Nagapattinam

Six ancient metalidolsof deities were today unearthed while digging a piece of land for construction of a house at a village near here, officials said.
Workers spotted the idolsat a depth of about eight feet while they were digging a piece of land at Rarathimangalam village.
Idols unearthed include that of Lord Vinayakar, Murugan, Kamakshi Amman and Nanthi, officials said.
Theidolslook to be intricately carved and might be ancient. All idols are very small in size measuring about three inches high, Tahsildar Ilangovan said.
Other details about theidols, including antiquity, would be known only after detailed archaeological examination, he added.
