Addressing a press conference in the party office here, state Secretary of the party P Madhu said CPI(M) is contesting 45 assembly and four parliament seats from Andhra Pradesh and discussions are on with Jai Samaikhyandhra Party as well as the Communist Party of India (CPI) for a poll alliance.
In Visakhapatnam, which is a prominent industrial area, the CPM has fielded candidates in nine assembly and two parliament seats, including Araku and Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituencies.
He alleged both BJP and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which supported bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, are shedding crocodile tears for Seemandhra people.
"I do not know whether it is TDP or Congress party. Out of five parliament seats Chandrababu Naidu announced, four belong to Congress," he said.
He said CPM would fight for the rights of workers and strive for their welfare, alleging that the UPA government has neglected public sector units and encouraged the private sector.
Though Visakhpatnam Steel Plant had paid several crores of rupees to the government as taxes, the government failed to allocate captive iron ore mines to the plant, he alleged.
