Designer Anita Dongre, who is readying to showcase two of her popular brands at the Lakme Fashion Week feels that Indian fashion industry is rapidly growing and is almost in sync with international standards.
"Indian fashion industry is nothing but vivacious, comprising various elements that have contributed to the spread of fashion as a driving force, both among Indian consumers and select segments of western markets. Fashion is a rapid-growing industry in India, but it still has a long way to go," Anita told PTI.
"While there is no shortage of creative and budding talent, there are very few platforms for the new talent to grow. However, our standard in India is almost in sync with International standards. Hence, even though the mall culture has introduced several international brands in our country, one can find trends of the same standard by Indian brands and designers," she said.
Anita launched her first high street western label called AND initially and followed it up with yet another brand called Global Desi, which is chic and ethnic. Both the brands have been successful and are sold from respective brand outlets and shops across India.
Now Anita feels its the right time to take the popular brands and showcase them on a big fashion platform like the Lakme Fashion Week.
"Over the years both the brand has carved a niche for themselves. Both my high street brands AND & Global are participating at Lakme Fashion Week this season and I'm very excited to have them mark their debut at one of the most prestigious fashion events in India," she said.
AND & Global Desi will have a joint showcasing at Lakme Fashion Week on August 25.
Talking about the collection Anita said, "Each collection is distinct in style and design. We will be showcasing a gypsy chic collection inspired by the energy of music festivals. While, AND takes you back to the fashionable 70s with flared bottoms, bold prints and solid colours.
