Another complaint has been received against singer Sonu Nigam over his tweet about controversial self-styled godwoman Radhe Maa, who is embroiled in a dowry harassment case here, police said today.
Two written applications had been already submitted against Nigam - one in Samtanagar and another in Sakinaka - requesting the police to file an FIR against Nigam for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of a section of people.
"Police have received another application against Nigam for his tweet regarding Radhe Maa a few days ago," said DCP (Detection-I) M Dahikar.
An advocate, Atal Dubey, filed an application at Azad Maidan Police Station against Nigam yesterday, police said.
The 42-year-old signer, in his tweet, had compared the religious leader to a Hindu goddess, said police.
"Last night, I gave an application for registering a case against the singer under Sections 153 and 295 (A) of the IPC," said Dubey.
These sections are related to provocation with intent to cause riot and deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.
Police will record my statement tomorrow, added Dubey.
"Police haven't filed any FIR against the singer and would take appropriate action, if needed," added Dahikar.
Last week, Radhe Maa was questioned by Kandivali Police here in regard to the dowry harassment case, in which she is an accused.
A 32-year-old woman has alleged that the godwoman instigated her in-laws, who are her followers, to demand dowry. Radhe Maa has denied the charge.
