A harsh summer sun troubled Delhiites for another day today as the mercury once again touched 42 degree Celsius, the highest for this season, as Weatherman predicted heatwave conditions by middle of the month.
Today's maximum was three points above normal and a steady rise from yesterday's 40.8 deg C, which was two degree above normal for this time of the year, the MeT department said.
The minimum temperature remained one degree below normal at 23.7 deg C, which was significantly down from yesterday's 25.3 deg C. Humidity levels were recorded between 13 and 57 per cent.
The weatherman has predicted clear sky for tomorrow and temperature between 24 and 41 deg C.
Weather Office had predicted that the city will witness a significant increase in maximum temperature for a week till May 16.
"Latest model output and the analysis indicate that the maximum temperature over Delhi (Safdarjung) will be in the range of 41-42 deg C during May 8 and 10, 39-40 deg C during May 11 and 13 and 41-43deg C during May 14-16.
"The maximum temperature may reach around 44 deg C in some areas of NCR on May 16. Therefore, heat wave conditions are likely to develop over Delhi NCR by middle of May," a statement said.
It further said drop in maximum temperature during the weekend will be in association with a western disturbance affecting the neighbouring areas of Delhi NCR during May 11-12.
