Another gas based thermal power project would start generating power next month in Tripura, which has already been declared as a power surplus state.
Following charging of natural gas by state-owned ONGC to the 101 MW thermal power project at Monarchak in Sipahijala district yesterday, the project run by North East Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) is likely to start generation of power next month, Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey said today.
ONGC spokesperson, Sonalee Dutta said, they charged gas in a 10.7 km long pipeline from Khedabari Gas Commissioning Station (GCS).
NEEPCO is a central government undertaking under the Union Power ministry. The foundation stone of the Rs 1000 crore project was laid in 2003.
Dey said, after the 726 MW gas based thermal power project at Palatana in South Tripura district started full generation, the state became completely power surplus state.
