Officials said the officer, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) A C Singh, suffered a heart attack on Saturday night and he succumbed yesterday noon at a hospital.
Singh (51), who was commanding the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) at its Tac (tactical) headquarters in Khunti district, had joined CRPF in 1989 as an officer.
He was commanding a squad of over 4,000 troops in the jungles of the district hit by Naxal violence.
"He suffered a heart attack and he breathed his last yesterday noon. His body is being flown today to Delhi where his last rites will be held today or tomorrow," a senior officer said.
