Kher, 60, who made an unconventional debut as an aged father, said the journey has been amazing for him.
"Today I complete 31 yrs in Film Industry. It has been the most amazing journey since SAARANSH. Happy Birthday to me," Kher posted on Twitter.
The "Baby" actor also shared a collage of his dearest memories in the last 31 years including his outing with Hollywood star Robert De Niro and his stint as a talk show host.
Mahesh Bhatt, who directed the 1984 drama, tweeted, "Today 31 years ago this enduring classic SAARANSH was released & a star was born! @AnupamPkher."
"Saaransh" is about an elderly Maharashtrian couple living Mumbai, who try to come to terms with the death of their only son in a mugging incident in New York. It stars Rohini Hattangadi, Soni Razdan and Madan Jain besides Kher.
