Percussionist Pt Bickram Ghosh says any initiative has to be backed by an honest intent.
Complimenting artiste-colleague Durga Jasraj fpr initiating India's biggest musical show Jalsa Music, Bickram told PTI, "There has to be an honest intent If you believe in what you do."
Durga, the esteemed daughter of legendary classicist Pt Jasraj, said, "India thrives on the rich legacy of different genres. Sufi, thumri, dadra and cross cross (fusion) as well. Our effort has been to promote any serious music by people who pursue it sincerely."
Chips in Bickram, "People can be equally good in their own fields There has to be a positive emotion in every rendition. Music is the biggest unifying force and we just want to commemorate that."
Informing that 30 crore people from countries have now become part of 'Idea Jalsa' concert series, Durga, the founder of Art and Artistes organizing the show, said, "It had been a surreal experience in past nine years as we now have 72 per cent audience below 35 years of age. It shows how musicially inclined we are as a nation where several genres thrive including film music which is based on musical notations."
"We embark on a discovery journey for new talents whenever we come to Kolkata. A city where almost everyone has to learn instrumentation, sitar, tabla, rabindrasangeet or vocal. Very much like in south where learning mrindangam or vocal is the tradition in every house," Durga said.
Bickram, who will be performing apart from Zubin Garg in the Jalsa Music For the soul concert said, "We will be performing in separate sessions. And since everything is scripted there is little possibility of we jamming together impromptu unless it happens on the spur of moment
"We seek to reach out to the 15 crore users of our service of mobile through the plarform of music," a spokesman of the large mobile network said.
