Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today expressed concern over sanitation and cleanliness situation in the state, and instructed officials to work towards improving the same.
In a teleconference with the district collectors, municipal commissioners and medical and health officials of the state, Naidu asked them to observe every Friday as 'Cleanliness Day' in all the villages and municipalities in the state to curb the spread of viral fevers, a press release said.
Expressing unhappiness at the increasing incidence of dengue and malaria fever in the state, Naidu asked officials to constitute health committees at tehsil and village levels with representation by officials from the health department and local bodies.
He asked officials to carry out intensive campaigns to spread awareness on sanitation and health measures to check viral fevers, and instructed them to take up a cleanliness drive for a period of ten days starting today.
The Chief Minister also asked the officials to involve Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and youth clubs in the sanitation efforts.
Meanwhile, Naidu also held a teleconference with the officials of state transport department and police today and asked them to restrict the speed of all vehicles on the National Highways to 80 km to avoid accidents, the official release stated.
He asked officials to regularly monitor the speed of vehicles by calculating the running time of each and every vehicle between two toll gates using the latest technology, it said.
The officials were further instructed to punish the violators and to take measures to check road accidents and resulting fatalities.
