AP govt to soon act on promised agri loan waiver: Minister

Andhra Pradesh government today said it would initiate steps in the next couple of months for the waiver of crop loans to farmers in the state.
"Steps will be initiated within two months for the waiver of crop loans to farmers," Andhra Pradesh Minister for Agriculture, Prathipati Pulla Rao said at the agricultural conference held at Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari district.
"The work of paying Rs 100 crore subsidy to the farmers, whose crop was affected and damaged in 'Neelam cyclone' is going on war footing," he added.
He said that godowns will be constructed in Andhra Pradesh with Rs 250 crore National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) funds, he said.
Stating that new technical equipment and machinery is being brought to encourage agriculture in the state, Rao said, "The government will shortly issue orders for construction of link roads to agricultural market yards in the state... fertilisers will also be supplied at subsidised rates to farmers."
State Deputy Chief Minister N Chinna Rajappa said with the construction of a multi-purpose Polavaram project, problems of drinking and irrigation water to will be solved and more land will be brought under cultivation.
