Opposition members did not let the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly transact any business today forcing the Speaker to finally adjourn it for the day after two initial adjournments.
Main opposition Telugu Desam Party wanted an immediate discussion on the acute power and drinking water crisis gripping the state while Telangana Rashtra Samiti demanded an explanation from the government on the arrest of its MLAs during the 'Sadak Bandh' agitation in Mahbubnagar district yesterday.
The TRS legislators stormed the Speaker's podium as soon as the day's proceedings began at 9 am and shouted slogans denouncing police action against the protesters who organised the road blockade demanding creation of Telangana state.
Within five minutes, Speaker Nadendla Manohar adjourned the House till 10 am. But when the House re-assembled at 10:18 am, TDP MLAs joined the TRS members in the well demanding immediate discussion on power and drinking water crisis.
Repeated pleas by the Speaker for order fell on deaf ears as the opposition members persisted with their demands.
Amid the din, the Speaker asked Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy to move the supplementary estimates of expenditure for 2012-13.
Though the minister moved the motion, the House could not take it for consideration as the TRS members raised the pitch of their slogans.
The Speaker then adjourned the proceedings for another half an hour but the House resumed only after 75 minutes.
There was, however, no change in the noisy scene with TDP and TRS MLAs staying put in the well of the House.
The Speaker announced that Home Minister Sabita Reddy would make a statement in the House tomorrow on the arrest of MLAs who took part in the road blockade yesterday.
The TRS members, however, did not give up and demanded that the government come out with an explanation at once.
With no order in sight, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day. The TDP legislators, however, remained in the House demanding that the government give a firm assurance on when the power issue would be discussed in the Assembly.
