AP leaders demand to make Hyderabad second capital of India

Amid the uncertainty over fate of Hyderabad after proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Ambedkar's proposition that the city could become the second capital of India is being raised afresh by some non-Telagana leaders.
"None other than the architect of Indian Constitution, B R Ambedkar, suggested long ago that Hyderabad be made the nation's second capital after New Delhi. In the current scenario, it will be the most appropriate thing to do," TDP spokesman Sudheesh Rambhotla noted today.
Incidentally, the Telugu Desam Party was the first to raise the demand three years ago that Hyderabad be made the second capital of India, if at all the state was to be bifurcated.

When asked about the demand for making Hyderabad the second capital of India, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu had recently remarked that B R Ambedkar put forth this suggestion years ago.
"Let's see how things will shape up," he noted.
Following the Congress' Central Working Committee resolution for division of AP on July 30, party MP from Rajahmundry Undavalli Arunkumar too demanded that Hyderabad be made the second capital of India, if not a Union Territory.
Yesterday, while asking that the move to bifurcate AP be kept on hold, Union Ministers from Andhra-Rayalaseema regions also made a case to the party high command in this regard.

Among the three options that the Union ministers placed before the high command over Hyderabad were: making it a permanent 'common capital' for the two states (Telangana and Andhra Pradesh); making it a Union Territory or the second capital of India.
