The state government in the erstwhile undivided AP used to celebrate state formation day every year, but the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government has now decided to observe June 2 as an occasion to take a vow to build the new state, since bifurcation took place against the people's wish.
AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who chaired a meeting of state cabinet and addressed district collectors as well as other officials today, said that the 'Nava Nirmana Deeksha' would be undertaken to build the state with renewed vigour.
School children of higher classes could be involved in the programme to make them aware of history, he said.
The AP state government has also decided to conduct a campaign on the government schemes and programmes conducted during the last year.
A public meeting would be held at the end of the campaign.
