APERC to create conductive atmosphere to develop power sector

Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) will function with commitment and determination to create a conducive atmosphere in the state to develop the power sector, APERC Chairman G Bhavani Prasad said here today.
Chief Secretary I Y R Rao presided over the swearing-in ceremony and administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice (Retd) Prasad at Lakeview Guest Househere.
Prasad said that as per the apex electricity regulation body, the APERC would encourage and support power utilities to adopt internationally proven best practices in areas like reduction of losses, adopting infotech enabled services and other energy efficiency measures.
"Such steps would ultimately result in rendering better and value added services to the consumers of all categories of the state. Commission shall ensure development of renewable energy as well as scrupulous implementation of Energy Conservation Act-2001," he said.
The APERC chairman said that Electricity Act 2003, vested powers with the state electricity regulatory body to look into interests of all power sector stakeholders like generators, transmission and distribution licensees to benefit the consumer.
He assured that the Commission would strive hard to protect interests of consumers and balance the interest of other stakeholders.
He assured that transparency in functioning of the commission would be fully ensured.
