Two motorcycle-borne miscreants intercepted the LIC's cash van near Gandhi maidan here while it was on way to Axis Bank to deposit Rs 13.54 lakh. They overpowered the security guard and fled with the bag containing the cash from the vehicle, Town police station in-charge A K Pal said.
The miscreants also looted a rifle from the security guard, but threw the gun near Government's Girls High School premises some distance away, he said.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Kumar, who rushed to the spot after coming to know about the incident, said that a probe was on in the matter.
