A Saharsa district court today issued non-bailable arrest warrant against Commissioner of Bhagalpur, R L Chongthu, in a decade-old case of issuance of arms licence without verification.
Chief Judicial Magistrate, Saharsa, Rajendra Choubey issued the warrant against Chongthu accepting the plea of Saharsa police.
The matter relates to issuance of arms licences to some people at Saharsa without proper police verification in 2005 when Chongthu was District Magistrate there.
A case was registered by the police at that time on directive of the then Superintendent of Police Arvind Pandey.
It was found that many people who were not actually residents of Saharsa were issued arms licences without verification of their address given in the application.
In the FIR, seven persons who had acquired arms licences were named.
