Nearly 4,000 armymen from various military stations in Bengal Area took part in 'Exercise Sagar Sampark' held at Ganga Sagar from January 3-6 to provide additional assistance during the annual Gangasagar mela.
The army marshaled its engineering, signals and inland water transport company resources to give medical cover, hygiene and sanitation requirements for its own personnel and pilgrims.
The scope of the exercise included familiarisation with IWT ships and crafts, watermanship training and embarkation-disembarkation drills, officials said.
The army also set up medical camps in Kakdwip, Kachuberia and Ganga Sagar since January 1.
