Army flag march in Kokrajhar

The army conducted a flag-march in Kokrajhar where indefinite curfew was imposed yesterday. While two columns of army were kept ready for Kokrajhar, three for Gosaigaon, official sources said.

Assam Director General of Police Jayanta Narayan Choudhury reached Kokrajhar this morning to review the security scenario in trouble-torn Bodoland Territorial Administered Districts (BTAD) with senior officials of the army, CRPF and BSF.

Assam Industry Minister Pradyut Bordoloi and Parliamentary Secretaries (Home) Rana Goswami and Bhupen Bora, reached Kokrajhar yesterday and reviewed the prevailing situation.

BPF leader Hemendra Nath Brahma was detained for violating curfew norms in Gossaigaon police station area this afternoon.

Police have so far taken 33 people into custody following fresh outbreak of violence since November 10.

Mediapersons have alleged that their movement has been restricted in the curfew imposed areas.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called up Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi last evening to discuss law and order in violence hit BTAD where six people were killed since November 10.

Earlier, four BTAD districts and Dhubri were affected by violent clashes between Bodos and minorities which left 90 people dead and more than 4.80 lakh homeless in July-August this year.
