Burdwan district administration requisitioned the Indian Army for flood relief and rescue operations in Patuli, Jaudanga and Babladange areas of Burdwan after which the Army pressed into action in the early hours of Sunday, a Defence official said today.
The relief columns rapidly deployed from Panagarh began carrying out flood relief and rescue operations inspite of heavy rains and bad weather conditions, he said.
The Eastern Command Headquarter was coordinating relief efforts in consultation with the local administration, the official said.
The flood relief column comprised of Army Engineer Task Force and Medical Teams from the newly raised Trinetra Division.
The teams were equipped with boats and flood relief stores and also provided immediate medical assistance to the injured and sick people, the official added.
