Arthroscopic surgery using fibre tape on overwieght Arunachal

Doctors of a reputed hospital here have successfully performed critical arthroscopic knee surgery using Fibre tape on a young boy weighing 130 kg.
The surgery was conducted on Lapkin Doni, a boy from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, who had torn his knee ligament after experiencing an injury a few days ago and was referred to Paras HMRI hospital, Patna, a statement from PARAS hospital said here today.
"The patient had come with swelling and instability in the knee area. This was aggravated by the weight (130 kg) the knees had to bear. It is difficult for us to operate upon a torn ligament in these cases, as there is a probability that the ligament may become lax again. We performed a ligament reconstruction," said Arvind Prasad Gupta, Consultant, Orthopaedics (Sports Injury), Paras HMRI.

Arthroscopy is a surgical practice performed through small incisions, where surgeons use a tiny telescopic camera along with a light source to look inside the joints. The procedure needs a super-specialization in sports medicine, and dedicated care during rehabilitation, both of which the medical care facility provides.
This is for the first time in Bihar that the FiberTape technology used during arthroscopy, the reputed orthopaedic claimed.
"For the first time in Bihar, I used a FiberTape during this operation. This is an ultra high-strength tape that is added to the ligament. It helps in its repair and ensures that the reconstructed ligament doesn't loosen in the near future. The technique originates from France, and uses a tape made of silicone elastic fiber and a non-elastic fiber, the doctor said.
