Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma today emphasised on revamping the Bamboo Processing Centre at Poma by improving its existing facilities for economic development of the people.
The Centre situated at Poma village, 12 kms from the state capital, was an initiative by former Governor Gen (Retd) J J Singh and inaugurated by him on August 18, 2009.
The facility was created by the state government and handed over to the Village Development Society for running it.
Sharma, who visited the Centre today, while interacting with officials, artisans and gaon burahs (village elders), advised them to take it up as proper commercial venture and expressed hope that the it would go a long way in augmenting the socio-economic condition of the rural community, Raj Bhawan sources said.
The Governor visited different sections of the Centre, including exhibition stall and charcoal kiln installed at the processing unit.
He said production of any produce including horticulture products, handloom and handicrafts were available in Arunachal Pradesh, but marketing was a challenge and asked officials to explore marketing options and avenues.
"Focus must be on to ensure that whatever the people, especially rural communities produce, must be marketed.
"It can be done, only if people stress on creating whatever can be marketed for economical viability," the Governor said.
Referring to the railway connection, Sharma encouraged the people for bulk production as the transportation cost would be reduced to large extent, the sources added.
