England shoot out West Indies for 101

Opting to bat first, the West Indies, who were on a high coming into this game after a comprehensive 209-run win over Sri Lanka, found the going tough against the English seam attack and were shot out in just 36.4 overs.

It left England with an easy task of winning the game at a very modest asking rate of 2.04 to enter the Super Six stage of the tournament. England had defeated India by 32 runs after a shock loss in their tournament opener against Sri Lanka.

At one stage, West Indies were in danger of being bowled out for their lowest-ever ODI total of 41 which was averted by the partnership of 68 in 114 balls between Kyshona Knight (33) and Shane Daley (30 not out).

The next best score in the pathetic batting display was the number of extras, 28, conceded by England.

But once that partnership was broken, West Indies lost their last four wickets for 12 runs, with Arran Brindle slicing through the tail to take three wickets in 12 balls without conceding a run.

The initial damage was done by England's new ball bowlers Ketherine Brunt (2 for 6) and Anya Shrubsole, who picked up four for 21.

Shrubsole left West Indies gasping with a three-wicket burst for eight runs in her first six-over spell and then came back to take the last wicket.

Only the left-handed Kyshona and no.8 Shane Daley reached double figures in the dismal batting display while six batswomen departed without scoring and the list included both their openers Stefanie Taylor and Kycia Knight.

A combination of poor shots and good bowling left Windies struggling at 31 for 6 before they recovered through the 7th wicket stand between Kyshona, who faced 86 balls and hit a lone boundary, and Daley, who hit four fours to remain unbeaten after facing 76 balls. MORE
