The ASI identified as Laxman Mallick, ASI G Udayagiri police station was caught red handed by anti-corruption sleuths while he received Rs 15,000 from a man to release his vehicle in an accident case, vigilance DSP Hare Krushna Behera said.
Vigilance sources said one Hari Nayak of Tikabali was running a pickup van belonging to one Bhismadev Pradhan of Damigam under the same police station area on lease basis. The vehicle met with an accident on Karada ghat on August 9, 2015 and the accused ASI was the investigating officer of the case who allegedly had demanded Rs 30,000 from Nayak to release the vehicle.
The incident came just two days after two police personnel were arrested for their alleged involvement in a murder case in Baragarh district.
