An Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) was suspended for allegedly granting bail to an accused in a non-bailable offence, a senior police officer said today.
Surya Narayan Behera, who is presently posted in marine police station in Chamakhandi, was suspended yesterday for granting bail on Junuary 22, 2015 to a woman who had been arrested on the charge of inflicting injuries on another woman in a domestic quarrel when he was the ASI of Khallikote police station.
"It was a non-bailable case. I placed him under suspension for dereliction of duty," SP (Ganjam) Narsingh Bhol said.
The matter came to light during inspection of the police station by the SP on Thursday.
