West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi today said that The Asiatic Society, undertaking research in various disciplines, since its inception in 1784, can never lose its relevance.
It is going ahead on its path as an institution of national importance, he said.
The Asiatic Society was founded by Sir William Jones 234 years ago to pursue study and research of History, Science and Art as prime objectives, Tripathi said, while delivering the keynote address at the 234th AGM of the institution.
The society has thousands of manuscripts in 26 languages, inscriptions, paintings, including Rajasthani ones.
"The Society has brought out 40 booklets in past three years... and is going ahead on its path as an institution of national importance," the Governor said.
Talking about adapting to modern changes, president of The Asiatic Society, Professor Isha Mahammad, said, "The society has the innate ability to recognise the past, which has led it to the present."
