Ask Pak to stop 'proxy war' against India: BJP to Oppn

Hitting out at Opposition parties for advocating dialogue between India and Pakistan, the Jammu and Kashmir BJP unit today said they should first ask the neighbouring country to stop waging a "proxy war" against India.
"The Opposition leaders should first address Pakistan and ask it to stop waging a proxy war against India by sponsoring and supporting terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir," BJP state Spokesman Virender Gupta said.
He said the prevailing situation in the Valley "was not conducive" for holding dialogue as the armies of both the countries were facing each other on the border.
"There is continuous provocation from the Pakistan Army by shelling and firing towards the Indian posts and its intruders in the state creating dangerous situation through terrorist activities," he said.

The BJP leader alleged that no one among the Opposition leaders tried to "reach out to the people of Kashmir to help in bringing normalcy".
The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah refrained from commenting on the terrorist attack in Uri but instead followed the separatists who also demand holding of talks with Pakistan, he alleged.

Gupta said numerous dialogues were held between the two countries but none yielded any result as "it is the army whose writ runs in Pakistan".
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi also made number of attempts to have a cordial relationship with Pakistan but it always backstabbed India," he said.

Amid heightened tensions at the Indo-Pak border, Opposition parties of the state, led by National Conference, yesterday in a meeting over the current "dangerous situation" had disfavoured war, saying both India and Pakistan should hold talks to resolve the Kashmir issue.
