A number of aspirants who cleared the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) were cane-charged by the police today when they were heading towards the Vidhan Bhawan.
Under the banner of Uttar Pradesh TET Sangarsh Morcha, a large number of aspirants took out a foot march from Charbagh and proceeded towards the Vidhan Bhawan, demanding immediate appointment on the posts of primary teachers.
According to the police about 30 protesters have been detained.
When the protesters reached Burlington crossing in Hussainganj area here they sat on dharna and staged a demonstration resulting in a traffic jam.
Later, police cane-charged the protesters to get the road cleared, after which the aspirants damaged roadways buses.
"We tried to persuade them to clear the road, but they (protesters) remain adamant. They manhandled commuters and indulged into brick batting in which roadways buses were damaged," CO Kaisarbagh Hridesh Katheria said.
"Around 30 to 32 aspirants have been detained and are being quizzed at different places," he added.
The aspirants alleged that police cane-charge was unprovoked as they were demonstrating peacefully. They claimed that several aspirants were injured in the charge.
