Assam-based truckers launch indefinite blockade of Mizoram

A large number of vehicles were stranded in Assam and Mizoram on the border areas as a number of organisations in Assam's Cachar and Hailakandi district called for indefinite economic blockade of Mizoram from this morning.
The road blockade was organised by truck owners and drivers associations of Lailapur, Bagha and Hailakandi towns adjoining Mizoram and other organisations apparently in protest against the recent checking of inner line permits (ILPs) by civil societies in Aizawl, reports said here.
The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) or the Mizo Students Federation and MizoThalai Pawl (MTP) or Mizo Youth Association launched investigation into those traders and workers from outside the state misusing the ILP.

The civil societies said that there were many manual labourers who did not have valid ILP while many non-tribals were indulging in benami business using the local people's names.
Meanwhile, Mizoram Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs minister John Rotluangliana said that the stock position of foodstuff in the state was good.
"There would not be any problem even if additional stock were not procured for the next three months," Rotluangliana said.
