As the swollen Brahmaputra inundated large parts of Majuli island district, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal today visited his flood hit constituency and assured help to deluge hit people.
Sonowal asked the district administration to provide relief materials including drinking water to the flood affected people.
He also took stock of the medical facilities being provided to the flood relief camp inmates, especially elderly people and children.
Directing the administration to ensure supply of nutritional baby food to three relief camps and three distribution centres in the district, Sonowal issued strict instructions so that no flood victim is denied of relief materials.
Sonowal visited three relief camps at Kamalabari and Garmur areas and spent time with the flood-hit people and assured them to provide everything possible as he took stock of the relief materials being provided to the camp inmates.
In Majuli 58 revenue villages have been affected with nearly 48000 people, 1760 hectare crop area damaged and hundreds rendered homeless, official sources said.
