Congress president Rahul Gandhi has appointed chiefs of the party's 33 district committees (DCC) in Assam, AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot said today.
Kushal Kumar Sarmah has been appointed the Guwahati city DCC chief, while Dip Gogoi and Atuwa Munda are the Jorhat and Dibrugarh unit heads respectively, he said in a statement here.
The appointments were a part of efforts to strengthen the party in the north-eastern state in view of the next Assembly polls in Assam, slated to be held in 2021, a party leader said, requesting anonymity.
The BJP had dislodged the Congress in the 2016 Assembly elections, bringing the UPA major's 15-year uninterrupted rule in the state to an end.
