Patnaik in a statement appealed to everyone to maintain peace and spread the message of amity and unity in keeping with the true spirit of such festivals and tenets of every religious faith and order.
"With the blessings of the Goddess people can defeat the evil designs of the divisive forces which threaten to disrupt our long standing tradition of peace and harmony", the Governor added.
The Chief Minister appealed to the people to maintain peace and calm and hoped the festival would promote a bond of brotherhood among all sections of society.
"I hope the festival brings an end to violence and terror in the state and we can triumph over all destructive forces so that peace and prosperity can prevail", Gogoi said.
