Assam govt launches carbide-free banana shop

Aiming to provide chemical-free fruits, Assam government today launched a retail shop in the city to sell carbidefree bananas.
The shop is promoted by the Assam government's department of horticulture and food processing and was launched under the aegis of Amlighat Banana Producer Compay. It was inaugurated by Prabin Hazarika, Director of Horticulture and Food Processing.
Speaking on this occasion, agriculture officer Mowsam Hazarika said use of the chemical is extremely hazardous as it contains traces of arsenic and phosphorous which are dangerous for the human body. The chemical is also believed to have carcinogenic properties.
