Assam home dept issues letter to prevent child marriage

The Assam Home and Political Department has issued a letter to the Commissioner of Police, all district Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police regarding child marriage which needs to be prevented as per provision of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
A government release here today said in view of child marriages solemnised on a large scale on Akshay Tritiya/ Akha Teej an awareness was sought to be created with public awareness programme conducted by the District Magistrates, Women's Commission and Civil Society Organisations regarding the issue.
Public awareness on the issue be created as per provision of the Act and its punishment in order to prevent such child marriages, the release said.
