Students Union Movement of Arunachal (SUMA) activists today set ablaze a vehicle at hotel Donyi Polo Ashok protesting the entry of Naga Peoples' Front (NPF), a Nagaland-based party, in state politics.
The students' body staged a dharna here protesting against the NPF's move to field 11 candidates for the April 9 Assembly elections in the state and later set fire on a vehicle bearing registration number of Nagaland.
"The vehicle belongs to Mhonlemo Kikon, a NCP MLA from Nagaland who arrived here as general observer of his party," Capital SP Seju P Kuruvilla said, adding that a case has been registered in this connection and five SUMA activists were arrested.
The SUMA has been protesting against against promotion of NPF candidates in the state.
"Everybody knows that NPF has nothing to do with our state. They are regional political party based in Naga inhabited state and should not trespass the jurisdiction of others. Is there NPF in Assam? If not why should we entertain that party in our state?" SUMA said in a statement.
