The six students -- Gyandeep Sarmah, Bhaswati Deka, Suty Khound, Shahinoor Rahman, Parijat Priyadarshini and Priyanka Bezbaruah -- are toppers in High School Leaving Certificate and Assam High Madrassa Examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) this year.
A seventh student, Ratul Khan, who was also selected for the trip was unable to leave due to visa problem.
Khan, madrassa exam topper, failed to obtain an US visa despite repeated attempts by the government on his behalf. The matter has created a small controversy in the state.
It was not clear on what ground Ratul's visa request was rejected.
Inaugurating the 'Deba Kumar Bora Memorial NASA Visit' here today, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi handed over the flight tickets to the six students.
Speaking on the occasion, Gogoi called upon students to march ahead with times and get a grasp of changes in the society.
He called upon students to take by science and technology in a bog way so that India is able to compete with other advanced countries.
